Calculation of superficial and deep foundations
This work sets out the geotechnical methods for sizing foundations, in particular those introduced into French practice by the limit states approach formalized by Eurocode 7 on “Geotechnical Calculation” and its two national application standards (one for deep foundations, the other for superficial foundations). These two standards have notably modified the rules for calculating the bearing capacity of foundations, compared to previous regulatory texts (Fascicle 62-Title V of the CCTG and DTU 13.12 and 13.2). This work takes into account the various developments. Furthermore, a more important place is given to numerical methods, which have widely developed over the last twenty years, as well as to the concepts of soil-structure interaction relevant for the rational design of superficial and deep foundations.
The first chapter 1 is an introduction to the concepts of limit state calculations, applied to the design of foundations. Chapters 2 and 3 deal respectively with the Calcul de fondations superficielles and the calculation of deep foundations. Chapter 4 brings together a certain number of elements of soil-structure interaction common to all types of foundations: admissible displacements of structures, as well as soil-structure couplings.
This work should be useful both to students and to practitioners in design offices, businesses and administrations.
